Children's Crossings
Sanderson Middle School - Children's Crossing - Completed February 2021
In response to pedestrian safety concerns, City of Darwin are proposing to construct three new children’s crossings surrounding Sanderson Middle School.
The proposed works include the construction of new children’s crossings where the Yanyula and Wulagi Greenbelts adjoin Matthews Road, and where the Malak Greenbelt adjoins Patterson Street.
These crossings will give pedestrians right-of-way when the ‘Children Crossing’ flags are displayed. While the flags are displayed, motorists must slow down and stop before the stop line if a pedestrian is on or entering the crossing and must not proceed until all pedestrians have left the crossing. The flags will be displayed between approximately 7:00 am and 5:00 pm on school days only.
Car parking will also be restricted for a distance of 20 metres prior to and 10 metres after each children's crossing via the installation of yellow lines.
A plan showing overall location of the three proposed crossings and preliminary construction plans of each crossings can be viewed at the link below.
The works commenced in January 2021.
