Darwin - We are excited!

The 2025 Australian Open Water Cup is a national, multi-leg open water swimming series designed to develop athletes, strengthen club engagement, and elevate Australia’s global presence in open water sport.

So here is your chance to race against the likes of Dolphins Nick Sloman and Tom Raymond - freshly back from the Singapore World Championships - in the Top End.

The first stop of the inaugural Australian Open Water Cup will be held in Darwin on Saturday 13 September and will feature a 5km* and 3km knock out sprint and a 500m event.

No qualifying times are needed to enter - entries are open to all via Swim Central, so why would you not give it a go!

The series includes four competitive rounds across diverse Australian locations, each delivered in partnership with state swimming bodies:
Leg 1 - Darwin NT - 5km, 3km knock out - 13 September 2025
Leg 2 - Coolum, QLD(QLD Champs) - 10km and 7.5 km - 25 October 2025
Leg 3 - Western Australia (WA Champs) - 10km & 1.5 km - 22 November 2025
Leg 4 - NSW (NSW Champs) - 10km and 5km - 21 December 2025

The NT event will feature a 500m swim, the 5km main event and the 3km knockout event. The 3km knockout format is a heat of 1500m, where the top half of the field will progress to the second stage, which is a 1000m swim. The top half will then progress to the final 500m swim to determine the placings and points scores. This is a great opportunity for NT based swimmers to compete in a National level event in our own backyard.

3.00Km and 5Km Events: $20 including GST and associated Stripe fees
500m Event: $10 including GST and associated Stripe fees
