WRITING TO THRILL with James Phelan
"Jed Walker is right there in Reacher's rear-view mirror." -- Lee Child
James Phelan is the award-winning author of 30 books, including thrillers, young adult, and middle grade fiction. As a teenager James discovered a love of thrilling stories, of being entertained and informed along the way. While still in high school, James developed the idea that would become his first published novel, FOX HUNT (Hachette, 2006). However, first came a diversion into architecture (a “real job”), then he wasted five good years at a broadsheet newspaper (aka “the good old days”), went on to obtain an MA in Writing and then a PhD in Literature (aka “procrastination” - a critical skill for a fiction writer), before taking the plunge to be a full-time author and selling over five million of copies around the world.
James has written two bestselling thriller series, the first five action thrillers featuring ex-Royal Australian Navy protagonist Lachlan Fox, the next five being the suspense thrillers featuring ex-CIA operative Jed Walker.
James will talk about his journey to publication, explain how he writes and crafts a story, and give his top writing tips. He might even tell you how to create suspense…
Workshop material will be provided, and there will be time for a Q&A with the author.
