Water Walkers
Public artwork from Carla Russo speaks of the artist’s love of birds and the NT landscape.
On what inspired her work, Carla said, “I love listening to and watching birds”. For the artist, birds make up so much of how she sees, hears and feels in the place she calls home.
The artist recalls, that as a child, her family would occasionally head out to Fog Dam for an evening meal at dusk, loving the diverse bird life and beautiful songs they threw into the air. It was at Fogg Dam on a recent adventure, that the artist was struck once again by the fascinating Jacana birds and their ability to walk on water. Reminiscing that as children, they would affectionately call them the Jesus bird for this reason.
Meet the Artist
Carla (Instagram @carlabellaartist) was born and raised in the Territory. She is an established art educator and practising visual artist. She creates vibrant, playful acrylic paintings which capture the beauty in NT landscapes and bird life.
