Arts and Cultural Development
The City of Darwin Arts and Cultural Development portfolio plays a vital role in creating opportunities for community arts education and participation, supporting artistic professionalism, and showcasing the city’s diverse creative talent. Through this work, we help foster a shared sense of identity, stimulate the local economy, and enhance wellbeing at both individual and community levels.
City of Darwin actively supports and invests in creative practitioners and organisations across the municipality. Our multifaceted approach to arts and culture cultivates a vibrant and dynamic environment for residents and visitors alike. This support is delivered through partnerships with organisations such as the Darwin Entertainment Centre, as well as through public art commissions, sponsorship programs, community grants, direct engagement initiatives, access to venues, curated exhibitions, and significant in-kind support for festivals and events.
We create and enable opportunities for artists, arts organisations, events, and audiences, playing a unique and essential role in strengthening the local arts sector. Our investment nurtures creative expression across all aspects of community life—supporting those who live, work, study, and visit Darwin—while ensuring the sector can respond to evolving community needs, interests, and aspirations.
We also provide internal and external art consultancy services through our Arts and Cultural Development Officers. Contact the Arts and Cultural Development team email arts@darwin.nt.gov.au.
