The map allows users to explore artworks across streets, parks and public spaces, learn about the artists and follow creative trails throughout our different Wards.

Supporting City of Darwin’s Creative Strategy 2024 - 2030, the platform celebrates Larrakia culture, champions local artists and encourages residents and visitors to experience Darwin through a creative lens.
City of Darwin has launched a Public Art Story Map, a new digital platform bringing together public art from across the municipality and connecting the community to the stories, artists and places that shape Darwin’s creative identity.
The gallery and map allows residents and visitors to discover City of Darwin public art across streets, parks and public spaces while learning about the artists, cultural significance, and stories behind each piece.
Featuring artists and artworks from across the four wards, Chan, Lyons, Richardson and Waters, the platform presents public art through the voices and perspectives of the creatives behind the works.
Accessible on phone, tablet or computer, the Public Art Story Map allows users to browse artworks, click locations to learn more, explore featured pieces and hear directly from the creators of the work.
Whether planning a walk, seeking creative inspiration or simply curious about the stories behind local art, the platform offers an engaging way to experience Darwin’s public art collection.
Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the initiative reflects City of Darwin’s commitment to celebrating creativity and strengthening community connection through the arts.
“The Public Art Story Map brings Darwin’s artworks together in one digital place, making it easier for people to explore and engage with the creativity that exists throughout our city,” the Lord Mayor said.
“This is about more than pins on a map, rather it is about sharing the stories, cultures and ideas behind the artworks that contribute to Darwin’s unique identity and sense of place.”
The platform supports City of Darwin’s Creative Strategy 2024–2030 by making creativity more visible, accessible, and valued across the city, while aligning with the strategy’s three focus areas: Celebrating Larrakia, Distinctly Darwin and Invigorating Spaces.
The map increases the visibility of Larrakia artists and cultural expression by sharing stories that honour culture, Country, and community, while supporting City of Darwin’s commitment to reconciliation and amplifying First Nations creative voices.
By sharing these stories digitally, the platform promotes Darwin’s unique creative identity to local, national, and international audiences.
“Whether you are rediscovering your neighbourhood or visiting Darwin for the first time, the map offers a new way to experience the city through a creative lens,” Mr Styles said.
City of Darwin invites the community and visitors to continue explore the platform as it grows and evolves alongside the city’s creative community.
