City of Darwin continues to assess the damage of assets across the municipality.
-
The Council provides an update on what facilities will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday 26 November. Full details below.
City of Darwin has made significant progress in assessing the damage to City of Darwin assets sustained from Tropical Cyclone Fina.
Additional Council facilities have been cleared to reopen tomorrow, while others will remain closed until further safety assessments and cleanup are completed.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 26 November, Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility will open to the general public between 7:00 am and 5:45 pm for general waste only (no green waste), which includes:
-
food waste
-
unwanted household items
-
cardboard
-
Hard waste such as mattresses
We urge the community to remember that no green waste will be accepted at Shoal Bay - residents can continue to take their green waste to a free, alternative emergency waste management site at Hidden Valley between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Reviva Reuse Shop at Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility will also reopen tomorrow, and from lunchtime, Casuarina Pool will also reopen to the community.
Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the clean-up effort was progressing well across the municipality.
“Each day we’re getting a clearer picture of what’s needed, and we’re now in a position to reopen several more facilities tomorrow, which is a great sign of how far we’ve come in just a couple of days.”
“We ask residents to remain mindful around damaged community areas. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work as quickly and safely as we can, and we’ll share more updates as soon as they’re available,” he added.
