City of Darwin is thrilled to unveil our latest public art on the irrigation tanks located near the greenbelts of Anula and Wulagi, and at Wulagi Oval.
The tanks feature artworks from five Darwin artists – Keelan Fejo, Sarrita King, Carla Russo, Ifa Shiddiq, and Tisha Tejaya.
Keelan Fejo is a Mayalli and Larrakia man, born in Darwin and raised in Katherine, NT. From an early age, he watched his dad paint and quickly learned the skill of steady-hand crosshatching, a technique that remains central in his work today.
Keelan’s work, Rarrkbun, located at Wulagi Oval, demonstrates this unique crosshatching style. Check out more of his work on Instagram @artbykeelanfejo.
Sarrita King lives in Darwin, where she spent most of her youth. Her work is inspired by the Northern Territory and the stories passed down by her late father, William King Jungala.
Sarrita’s work, located at Wendy’s Park (off Snipe Court), is inspired by community and people coming together in celebration and unity through dance. See more from Sarrita on her website sarritaking.art.
Carla Russo was born and raised in the Territory. She is an established art educator and practising visual artist. She creates vibrant, playful acrylic paintings that capture the beauty of NT landscapes and birdlife.
Carla’s work, located at Yanyula Park (opposite Anula Primary School), reflects her love of birds and the NT landscape in all its vibrancy. See more from Carla on Instagram @carlabellaartist.
Ifa Shiddiq is an emerging Indonesian-Australian artist, born and bred in Darwin. She has a passion for character design and storytelling and is known online for her personified characters of Australian cities.
Ifa’s work, located at Wulagi Greenbelt (off Thrush Court), features various local icons and speaks to life in the tropics. Check out her work at eskrimko.carrd.co.
Tisha Tejaya is a lawyer and an award-winning artist based on Larrakia Country. Her artistry celebrates the adventures, food, and culture of the multicultural communities of migrants and refugees who call the NT home.
Tisha’s work, located at the McMillans Road Greenbelt (off Jade Court), explores the riot of life found in the Northern Territory’s coastal creeks and forests. See if you can spot fiddler crabs, striated heron, magpie geese, and longbums! Discover more of her work at tejaya.com.au.
In line with our Creative Strategy 2024–2030, these projects celebrate distinctly Darwin themes, reflect our natural environment, and create valuable opportunities for local artists.
