Territory Day is a great celebration of everything we love about the Territory, but it's important to celebrate responsibility, be mindful of animals and properly dispose of fireworks.
Here's some key housekeeping information for Territory Day.
Pets
To help look after pets, City of Darwin will:
- Have 2 x crews on animal pickups working through until 9pm
- Pound is open until 9pm
- Waive impound fees for registered animal seized as a result of TD fireworks
- Parking enforcement around Gardens Hill Road to address unsafe parking
We encourage you to keep your pets happy and safe on Territory Day by:
- Keeping your pet inside
- Closing windows and blinds
- Playing music or the TV for calming background noise
- Giving your animal a distraction, like a bone or toy
Clean up and disposal of fireworks
- We will have extra crews out on the street to assist with Territory Day clean up.
- We will be conducting a site inspection at Mindil Beach to ensure that the stall holders are complying with the disposal of waste requirements.
- Operational crews will be focused on the clean-up first thing Tuesday morning from 6.30am.
- Sporting Ovals, Fannie Bay foreshore, Bundilla, East Point, Nightcliff foreshore and Bicentennial Park are some of the first sites crews will head to start the clean-up.
- From there the teams will disseminate across the municipality, working to remove as much firework debris as possible.
- There will be numerous large skip bins placed in the carparks at Fannie Bay foreshore, Bundilla, East Point, Nightcliff foreshore and Bicentennial Park.
- The bins will be out from Monday and we encourage the community to place their rubbish from the night in the bins.
- We also ask that people not use the litter bins in parks to throw their fireworks rubbish in on the night. They’re plastic and tend to catch alight and melt.
- East Point will also be closed early on Monday, at 6pm, to protect the reserve and the flora and fauna.
