PROGRAM OUTLINE

  • The 2026 assisted pick-up outdoor hard waste collection service is for people with limited physical and/or mental capacity that have no support to manage unwanted outdoor household items that may become hazards in a cyclone.    
  • To be eligible, you must meet all eligibility criteria outlined below.  
  • If all criteria are met, please complete and sign the authorisation below and click ‘submit booking request’.

Please read the following terms and conditions carefully before ticking the boxes below to confirm your agreement.

I agree:  

  • to present my current disability support card or doctor’s certificate at my property, if requested, before City of Darwin collects my unwanted items
  • to sign the consent and indemnity form at the commencement of the hard waste collection service at my property to allow people to enter my private property for the purposes of this program  
  • to declare all animals on-site in the booking form and on site that may pose a risk to collections teams  
  • that all items will be presented safely in an outdoor area for collection (eg not inside houses or sheds)
  • there will be no prohibited items (image below) presented for collection
  • that submitting this booking request does not guarantee an assisted pick-up. City of Darwin will assess eligibility and available spaces and make contact by phone or email to confirm the booking, collection date and time
  • that providing false and misleading information is an offence under the Local Government Act 2019 for which the maximum penalty is $74,000 or imprisonment for 2 years

  • Bookings are open from 10 August and close 4 September 2026. Bookings may close earlier if all places are filled.  
  • Collections will occur between the end of August and through to early October 2026.
  • Please select your preferred collection day(s) (Monday to Friday) and time window (7:00–11:00 am or 12:00–3:00 pm). While we will do our best to accommodate your preferences, they are subject to availability.
  • If your application is approved, City of Darwin will contact you to confirm your collection date and time.

Items that cannot be collected (Prohibited items): 

  • Asbestos   
  • Broken glass  
  • Cardboard (recycle in your yellow bin)  
  • Commercial waste   
  • Concrete   
  • Food and garden waste (including fridges containing food waste)   
  • Unlabelled liquids and chemicals  
  • Waste exceeding 2 cubic metres   
  • Large items longer than 2 metres in length such as scrap metal, trampolines, swing sets and lengths of timber
