Kathleen Folbigg & Tracy Chapman
In 2003, Kathleen Folbigg was convicted of killing her four children, based largely on her diary entries and her husband's accusations, and was sentenced to forty years in prison. In Inside Out, Kathleen recounts her traumatic childhood, troubled marriage, and how her dream of motherhood turned into a nightmare. Her childhood friend, Tracy Chapman, reconnected with her after the conviction and became a tireless advocate, believing firmly in Kathleen’s innocence. As scientific and legal doubts about the case grew, Tracy's persistence helped push for a re-examination of the evidence. After years of advocacy, Kathleen was finally pardoned and exonerated in 2023, and the book tells both women’s stories of resilience, injustice, and hope for change.
