Our Skate Park at Jingili Water Gardens is well used by Darwin’s skate communities. To grow use of the facility Council’s LAUNCH program offers a range of events throughout the year.
The activities and events in the LAUNCH Skate Calendar aim to:
- increase the diversity of skate park users
- connect Darwin’s skate communities
- support activation and positive use of public space
- provide opportunities to be healthy and active
All activities, unless otherwise stated, are open to skate boarders as well as scooter, quads and BMX riders. Unless otherwise stated, the age range for activities is 12-25. Parental supervision always recommend for under 12s.
Street Heat
We run two skate/scooter/quads/BMX competitions each year. The April comp coincides with Youth Week and the September comp heralds the wind down of our skate events as we head into build up.
Skate Nights
Every second Wednesday night at Jingili Skate Park we host a drop in session with access to safety equipment and a limited number of skateboards. Shredders, spectators and new comers are welcome. Skate Nights run March to November.
Themed Skate Jams
We keep things fresh at the regular Skate Nights by dropping some special themed events into the mix. These include:
- International Women’s Day Skate (March)
- Go Skate Day (June)
- Halloween (October)
- Sweatmass (December)
Park 101
During the July school holidays we run an introduction to skate park safety and etiquette. These workshops target beginners who have the basics of their discipline down (can stand, stop and travel in a straight line) but don’t have the confidence yet to access skate parks.
