The Darwin Christmas Pageant is back and it’s set to be bigger, better and merrier than ever!
City of Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said celebrating Christmas brings the community together.
“From school kids to sports clubs and multicultural groups, the pageant is an opportunity for people to appreciate each other and in a spirit of kindness bring some fun and joy to our city.
“I can’t wait to see what the community creates to show us what ‘A very Darwin Christmas’ means for them. This is a great start to the Darwin festive season and I encourage community groups across Darwin to get involved, celebrate Christmas and start designing a float,” Mr Vatskalis said.
Northern Territory Government Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said: “Mark 18 November in your calendar! 2023 sees the return of Darwin’s Christmas Pageant, celebrating the magic of the Christmas season in the heart of our city.
“Last year’s event was a huge success and we can’t wait to celebrate the spirit of Christmas with the Darwin community again.
“Christmas in the Territory is unique, and this event showcases our vibrant community spirit – it’s incredibly heart-warming to see so many Territorians come together at this special time of year.”
Community groups, schools, businesses and not-for-profits are encouraged to get into the Christmas spirit by registering a float for this year’s pageant.
To help Territorians really get into the festive fun, grants of up to $500 are available for community groups to create walking or vehicle floats to take part.
Last year’s first-of-its-kind-event saw close to 50 floats and more than 900 Territorians parade down the Esplanade and Knuckey Street and finish at Raintree Park, where pageant participants and more than 7,000 spectators enjoyed live-music and performances.
This year’s ‘A very Darwin Christmas’ pageant will be held on Saturday 18 November in Darwin City.
Following the Pageant, there will be a range of fun and family friendly Christmas themed activities throughout Darwin City.
This initiative is a partnership between the Northern Territory Government and City of Darwin.
Float participation registrations are now open, while businesses are invited to be involved by sponsoring the unique and joyous event.
