Collecting your pet from the Pound

Before you head to the Pound to collect your pet, please make sure you bring proof of identity. We cannot release your pet from the pound without proof of identity.

Before your pet is released we will check that your details and all fees and charges are up-to-date (this includes your pet's registration and microchipping fees). It is a requirement that all dogs and cats in our Municipality are registered and microchipped. Fees are payable on site with EFTPOS and credit card facilities available.

Release fees

If your pet is impounded, a release fee may apply upon collection at the Pound including a $36 daily maintenance fee.

Unregistered cats and dogs

For unregistered cats and dogs, a $331 release fee plus registration and microchipping fee may apply. Unregistered cats and dogs must be registered and microchipped at the time of release.

Registered cats and dogs

A release fee of $135 applies for registered cats and dogs.

Out-of-hours fee

An additional fee of $210 may apply for pets impounded outside of Council's normal hours.

Microchip fee

Microchipping costs $52 per animal.

Microchipping is a condition of registration and a requirement for the release of all animals from the Darwin Pound. Staff are able to microchip your pet upon release (fees apply).

Microchipping is available to all pets and can be arranged Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
