Kerbside recycling collection delays – Lyons & Leanyer

City of Darwin advises that kerbside recycling collection services in Lyons and Leanyer may be temporarily delayed on Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May 2025.

Residents are requested to leave their yellow-lid recycling bins on the verge. Collection crews will be working after hours and any streets not serviced will be prioritised for collection on Friday morning.

To assist, please ensure bins remain out until close of business Friday.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to complete all scheduled collections.

Changes to Library access and book drop

Construction of the new Civic Centre building will soon commence. The current Civic Centre carpark and nearby entrance will be closed from Monday 28 April and remain closed while works take place. The City Library will remain open and will be accessible from the Civic Centre Customer Services’ entry near Civic Park.

Please note that the City Library returns chute will be temporarily unavailable. A new Book Drop will be installed at the Cavenagh St side of the Civic Centre soon.

We kindly ask all customers to:

  • return items inside the Library during opening hours, or
  • use one of the 24/7 return chutes located at Casuarina, Nightcliff or Karama libraries.

For more information about the project, please go here.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

The Mall is the central shopping precinct in Darwin City. A diverse mix of retail and food outlets entice customers throughout the day. Colourful pathways guide pedestrians through a streetscape of stone-lined garden beds, cultural monuments, and artistic mosaics.

City of Darwin provides many services to The Mall that offer benefits to event organisers - see the site map.

There are public toilets, free public Wi-Fi, ample power including 3-phase power and an audio broadcast facility. There are also designated performance spaces for buskers.

Three large shade structures compliment large trees within The Mall and work to cool the area and provide shelter from the weather.

The large shade structure at the Bennett Street end is a popular event space and often accommodates a stage, musicians, or dance troupe.

At the other end of The Mall, Raintree Park offers a cool and shady area with a convenient balance of green space and pavement. At night, hundreds of fairy lights line the trees to create a magical environment.

Conveniently located near public transport, a taxi rank and West Lane Car Park, the Smith Street Mall is a popular event space. Event organisers are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
