City of Darwin is encouraging young people to use the school holidays to get creative, start writing and enter the 2023 Young Territory Author Awards (YTAA).
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the school holidays were the perfect opportunity to come up with an award-winning story.
“Put away the Xbox, Nintendo or Wii and get creative instead and you could win up to $500 in prize money for your book,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“We want to celebrate the creativity and talent of as many young Territorians as possible and read their stories, so please get writing and submit your work before 27 August,” he said.
The competition is open to all young authors under the age of 18, however entries must be a story presented as a book with a front and back cover, title page and pages clearly numbered.
The overall winner of the YTAA will receive a cash prize of $500, and the winners of each age category will receive a $50 book voucher.
All entries will be included in the Young Territory Author Awards collection, which is housed at the Darwin City Library.
Entries close Friday 27 August 2023.
