This week is National Recycling Week and City of Darwin is promoting opportunities for Darwin residents to improve their waste reduction and recycling efforts.

A few simple mistakes, like putting plastic bags in the yellow recycle bin, can send tonnes of good recycling to landfill. So recycle your thinking and learn to recycle for good.

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim said that while residents were aware of the importance of recycling, there was still some confusion when it came to appropriately disposing recyclables.

Please note that the intersection of Smith Street and The Esplanade is now a Shared Zone. All vehicles, including cars, scooters and bicycles must slow down to 10km/h and give way to pedestrians.

This is a highly pedestrianised area, and the change has been put in place to increase pedestrian safety. The new intersection will deliver greater access between the City Centre and the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.
